1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar

½ cup unsalted butter, softened

2 large eggs

¾ cup buttermilk

Zest of 2 large lemons

¼ cup fresh lemon juice

1 ½ teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Powdered sugar (for dusting)

For the Lemon Glaze:

1 cup powdered sugar

2-3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

Zest of 1 lemon

Instructions
 

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.

    Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

      Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together with an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.

        Add Eggs: Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract.

          Incorporate Buttermilk and Lemon: Gradually mix in the buttermilk, lemon zest, and lemon juice until just combined.

            Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Slowly add the dry flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing just until there are no flour streaks. Be careful not to overmix.

              Bake the Cake: Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
