½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 tbsp vegetable oil

For Topping:

Extra toffee bits and chocolate shavings (for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Cake Batter:

    - Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

      - In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

        - Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes until well combined.

          - Carefully stir in the boiling water (the batter will be thin).

            - Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.

              Bake the Cakes:

                - Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

                  - Once baked, remove from the oven and let the cakes cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.

                    Make the Caramel Sauce:

                      - In a medium saucepan over medium heat, add the sugar. Stir constantly until melted and has turned a golden amber color.

                        - Carefully add butter (the mixture will bubble up) and stir until melted.

                          - Slowly pour in the heavy cream while stirring continuously. Remove from heat and add vanilla and salt. Let cool slightly.

                            Prepare the Toffee Crunch:

                              - In a small microwave-safe bowl, combine the semi-sweet chocolate chips and vegetable oil. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between until fully melted and smooth.

                                - Stir in the toffee bits until evenly coated with the chocolate.

                                  Assemble the Cake:

                                    - Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate. Drizzle a generous amount of caramel sauce over the top.

                                      - Sprinkle half of the toffee crunch topping over the caramel layer.

                                        - Place the second cake layer on top and repeat the drizzling process with the remaining caramel sauce and toffee crunch.

                                          Garnish and Serve:

                                            - Optional: Top with whipped cream and garnish with extra toffee bits and chocolate shavings.

                                              - Slice and serve chilled or at room temperature for an indulgent treat!
